First and only edition. Text in Armenian.

A rare illustrated and comprehensive work surveying both the history of Armenian political life in the United States and the formation of the Armenian-American community, along with its engagement in the fate of Armenians in Turkey. The author regards the United States as one of the primary centers of modern Armenian political activity and highly estimates its significance for Armenians across the globe. The book presents a chronological account of the most important events from the arrival of the first Armenian immigrants in the 1880s through the 1920s. It highlights the work of political organizations as well as the contributions of individual figures, including American missionaries (Alice Stone Blackwell, Cyrus Hamlin, and others). The author examines the major developments that shaped Armenian political life both in the USA and in the Ottoman Empire, with a special focus on the events of the Armenian genocide. Throughout, the author evaluates the actions of political forces largely by the extent to which they influenced the fate of Ottoman Armenians. He criticizes both Armenian leaders and parties, as well as the contributions of foreign states.

Manuk Jizmedjyan emigrated to the United States from the Ottoman Empire in 1892. He was a member of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party or Ramgavar Party established in the city of Van in 1885. In this work, he also examines the activities of the other major and oldest Armenian political parties: the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (est. 1887) and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation or Dashnaktsutyun Party (est. 1890). Despite his affiliation with the Ramgavar Party, he criticises the actions of all political groups—their failures, internal problems, and strategic mistakes. From his point of view, the main problem was the fragmentation of Armenian political life and the unwillingness to unite and act together. In the conclusion, he argues that political activity for Armenians within Turkey is impossible and must instead be developed and reformed in exile. He assigns a special role to the Armenian Church, the Ramgavar Party and to the Armenian General Benevolent Union (est. 1906).

The book was published by the Nor Or (Նոր Օր=New Day) publishing house. It is an Armenian-American bilingual newspaper established in Fresno, California, in 1922. It has served as the official political organ of the Ramgavar Party and remains active today (now published in Altadena).
