#PG33
Ca. 1880s-1890s
Eight original albumen photos and one gelatin silver photo, from ca. 20,5x26,5 cm (8 x 10 ½ in) to ca. 19x25 cm (7 ¼ x 9 ¾ in).Two photos with captions and studio credentials in negative, all albumen photos with period pencil captions on verso; six albumen photos with ink stamps “Photographie Parisienne, Rubellin père et fils, Rue Franque, Passage Psare-Khan, Smyrne” on verso. Occasional minor creases, a few photos mildly faded, but overall a very good collection of interesting photos.
Interesting collection of nine early, well-preserved original albumen and gelatin silver studio photos of modern-day Turkey. Seven photos of the famous port of Smyrne/Izmir on the Aegean coast of Anatolia show Turkish quarter with several mosques and minarets looking south-west (apparently, towards Mount Pagos); waterfront and quays with docked boats, shops and tracks of a horse-driven street car; an alley and shops of the local bazaar; ancient Caravan bridge; a camel caravan crossing Meles River with the Caravan bridge in the background; and a Muslim cemetery in a poplar grove. A larger albumen photo shows partly ruined towers and a gate of the Yedikule Fortress in Istanbul, and a scene with a river, a grove of poplar trees, a cascade of waterfalls on the far right and distant hills.
