The first reprint edition of the anti-Christian treatise by an anonymous author, [稀書複製會]. It mostly consists of short stories about Christian invaders from the perspective of Japanese Buddhist propaganda. In 1639 when the bakufu’s Council of Elders put an end to the presence of the European mission in Japan [Martin Nogueira Ramos. The Monk and the Heretics. 2021], the series of the similar texts appeared to the attention of the religious and privileged classes who might be possibly involved in the relations with the undesirable guests. The “Kirishitan monogatari” was originally published: 1665, it was a second edition of the text, but first time illustrated. Our copy is a reprint initiated by "Kishō Fukuseikai" (吉兆復生会). It can be translated to "Good Fortune Revival Society" or "Society for the Revival of Good Fortune." It's the name of a Japanese publisher and printer, primarily known for republishing rare and valuable books, particularly those from the Edo period (1600-1868). They were active in the 20th century and continue to be a significant player in the Japanese rare book market. Text in Japanese.
