Ca. 1930s
41 loose gelatin silver photographs (nine duplicates); each ca. 14.5 x 8.5 cm (5 ½ x 3 ¼ in). a couple of photos mildly faded or with silver mirroring, but overall a very good collection.
A lively collection of photographs showing oil well operations on the Howard Glasscock Oil Field (Howard County) in western Texas, conducted by the Schermerhorn-Winston Company. Incorporated in 1928, it owned multiple oil properties in the southwestern United States, including several wells on the Kloh lease, located on the Howard Glasscock Oil Field. Schermerhorn-Winston was headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
19 photographs (not including duplicates) show views of the company’s well sites on the field, the drilling tower and equipment, large plumes of smoke at a drilling site, and men at work.
13 photographs (not including duplicates) are group portraits of the employees of the oil well. Two are photographed next to signs identifying the site. Others are posed next to equipment.
Overall, an interesting collection of photographs showing oil well operations in Texas during the early 1930s.
