This account, which is written in 100 letters, discusses the history, customs, and present state of India, and China, especially Macao, and is based on the author's travels there. It also gives a history of the Portuguese discoveries, settlement and trade in the Far East. The lithographed plates include portraits of Chinese emperors, and portraits of the author and his wife. Andrade, born in the Azores in 1780, made numerous voyages to India and China and he eventually became a director of the Bank of Portugal.
