Oblong Quarto (ca. 29.5 x 21.5 cm or 11 ¾ x 8 ½ in). 24 cardstock leaves (four blank). 173 gelatin silver photographs ca. 8.5 x 6 cm (3 ¼ x 2 ¼ in), 155 mounted in windows and 18 loosely inserted. Most images with period French pencil captions on mounts; period French pencil captions on verso of some loosely inserted images. Period red quarter sheep album; gold moire endpapers; binder’s paper label on upper right corner of inner front cover. Mounts mildly age-toned; seven windows with captions but no photos; a few photos mildly faded or with silvering, one image with small corner tear, but overall a very good album of interesting photos.

A collection of 173 original photographs showing Greece and Turkey, taken on a tour of the Mediterranean around 1910.

The majority of the album is of Greece, with over 80 photographs. They show archeological and historical sites of Greece such as the Acropolis (the Parthenon, the Erectheion, the Theatre of Dionysus, the Propylaia, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus), the Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens, the Temple of Hera in Olympia, the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, the Theatre of Epidaurus, the island of Delos, Knossos in Crete, the Peribleptos Monastery in Mystras, and the Meteora Monasteries. Other photographs of Greece show the Royal Palace, the neighbourhood of Kerameikos, and the Church of Panagia Kapnikarea in Athens. Also included are street scenes of Sparta and Athens, they show portraits of locals and snapshots of city life. One photograph is of a herd of sheep and goats being led through a street.

Photographs of Turkey show areas surrounding the Golden Horn and Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul and views of Smyrna (Izmir).

Other locations included in the album are France and Italy, along the Mediterranean coast. The photographs show the HMS Niger, later sunk by Germans in WWI, docked in Marseilles; Cap Corse of Corsica, off the coast of France; and Naples.

Overall, an interesting collection showing Greece, Turkey, and other places along the Mediterranean during the early 20th century.
