Oblong Folio album ca. 25,5x31 cm (10 ¼ x 12 ¼ in). 20 card stock leaves (2 blank), all with tissue guards. With 85 mounted original gelatin silver photographs, all ca. 5,5x8 cm (2 ¼ x 3 ¼ in). All but five with period green ink captions on the mounts. With four loosely inserted gelatin silver photographs, from ca. 24x18 cm (9 ½ x 7 ¼ in) to ca. 11,5x18 cm (4 ¾ x 7 ¼ in). Period green cloth album fastened with a string. Covers with some light wear on extremities, first tissue guard with minor tears, very light damp stain on the upper and lower right blank margins on the leaves, not affecting photos, but overall a very good album with strong interesting photos.

Historically interesting album with original photos documenting the restoration of the Vitoria-Minas Railroad (built in 1904) by the Raymond-Morrison-Knudsen Co. in 1948-1950. The project was initiated under the 1942 Washington Agreement to enhance ore transportation from Brazil's Itabira region ("one of the world's greatest sources of iron ore") to the Vitoria seaport and Europe during WWII. The agreement, signed by the US, Brazil, and the UK, ended the British-owned Itabira Iron Co.'s monopoly on local ore and the Vitoria-Minas Railroad. It transferred control to the Brazilian government and triggered prompt railway rehabilitation, overseen by Morrison-Knudsen Co. (Idaho) and Raymond Concrete Pile Co. (New York) from 1942 through the 1950s.

The collection documents the renovation of the Vitoria-Minas Railroad section in Minas Gerais. The compiler, A. J. Martel, was apparently an employee of the Raymond-Morrison-Knudsen Co. The album opens with five photos of administration personnel disembarking from "Panair do Brasil" (an early Brazilian airline) and posing near construction sites. One image shows Harry W. Morrison, co-founder of Morrison-Knudsen Co., with J. P. Pinheiro, president of Vale do Rio Doce Co. (the railway's operator). Twenty-five photographs capture various renovation stages for St. Antonio (site, machinery, cofferdams, temporary trestle, "bridge under traffic," general views), Correntes (machinery, cofferdam, steel erection, "crane removing forms," general view), Suassui (machinery, wood sheet pile, riveting operation, bridge & channel), and Onca Bridges (riveting operation, "setting forms," general view). The album also includes fifteen images of "Tunnel – km 57," showing Superintendent Engineer Paul Snow, an inside view of the tunnel, the temporary & completed east portal, etc. The other photos depict Pedro Palacios Station, Capim & Derribadinha bridges, ARMCO Culprits, "Quarry-km 389," excavation works, camp & yard in Valadares (a machine & carpenter shop, warehouse, American housing), etc.

Four loosely inserted large photos show the east portal of the "Tunnel – km 57," the steel erection process for St. Antion Bridge, the construction of Correntes Bridge, workers & machinery. Overall, a historically important album documenting the restoration of the Vitoria-Minas Railroad in 1948-1950.
