Oblong Quarto (ca. 28 x 19 cm or 11 x 7 ½ in). 24 thick grey paper leaves (four blank). 110 mounted gelatin silver photographs, three ca. 20.5 x 14.5 cm (8 x 5 ½ in), the rest from ca. 14.5 x 11 cm (5 ½ x 4 ¼ in) to 7 x 4.5 cm (2 ¾ x 1 ¾ in); with one loosely inserted photograph ca. 20.5 x 14.5 cm (8 x 5 ½ in). 73 images with period ink captions on mounts; at least one image with period pencil caption on verso; six captioned in negative; one with caption printed on recto. Period grey cardstock album fastened with string, with printed border and generic title “Photographs” on front cover. Mild rubbing on extremities of both covers and spine, small tears on front cover; mounts slightly waved and with mild rubbing on extremities; a couple of photos mildly faded or with minor silver mirroring, but overall a very good album of strong interesting photos.

A interesting collection of photographs showing sites in Burma (Myanmar) and British India (India and Pakistan) in the early 20th century. The album was likely compiled by a British traveller.

17 photographs show Burma, including the Irrawady River, the Pyaungshu Forest, the Shweli River and the Goteik Viaduct, as well as the Hsinbyume Pagoda in Mingun (“Mingoon”), a street in Mandalay, and views of riverbanks in Magway (“Magwé”) and Sagaing. Also included is a photograph of a group of Burmese men and horses posing outside of a house in Pakokku. A series of another 17 photographs shows people riding elephants and hauling logs, likely also in Burma.

Over 25 photographs show small towns in India, including Dalhousie, a hill station in northern India, with views of “Stiffles Hotel,” “Club Dalhousie,” “Terha Mall,” Panchpul Waterfall, a bazaar, and mountainous environs; and buildings found in “Dholi,” “Birowlie,” and “Bowarrah.” One photograph shows small horse-drawn carriages on “Dunera Road.” Another shows four men carrying a doli (a basic palanquin).

Over 30 photographs show cities in India and Pakistan. They include Lahore (Lahore Fort, Moti Masjid, Tomb of Jahangir, Shalimar Gardens), Lucknow (“Chundra Musjid,” the Residency at Lucknow), Dehradun, Delhi (Fort Delhi, Kutab Minar, Kashmere Gate), and Agra (Taj Mahal, Tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah, Akbar’s Tomb).

Also included in the album are views of the Mount Lavina neighbourhood near Colombo, Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka).

Overall, an interesting collection showing Burma and India during British rule in the early 20th century.
